Dr EJ Galon

BOralH, MDentPros, PhD (neuropsych)

Dental Prosthetist

EJ completed a Diploma of Dental Technology from TAFE Queensland in 2007. He further completed a Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Technology (post-registration) at Griffith University in 2012. EJ continued his education in prosthetic dentistry and completed a Master of Dental Prosthetics in 2013, where he was awarded the ‘The School of Dentistry and Oral Health Clinical Award’. His Master’s Research focused on the psychology of edentulous patients (no remaining natural teeth) and its effects towards prognosis and treatment outcomes.

Until 2017, EJ had been involved in student learning. During his formal studies in higher education, he was involved with the School of Dentistry and Oral Health as an Adjunct Associate Lecturer in Dental Prosthetics. This included supervising postgraduate students during their clinical treatment sessions, supervising both dental technology and dental science undergraduates during their technical laboratory sessions, lecturing clinical prosthetic theory, and exam moderation.

As a practising dental prosthetist, EJ is a member of the Australian Dental Prosthetist Association (ADPA) and frequently attends conferences to continue his professional development. Clinically, his primary focus is on patient care, education, and understanding. Through this, EJ aims to deliver a detailed research- and evidence-based approach to treatment planning and prosthetic dental care.

Furthermore, EJ has completed additional undergraduate studies in psychological science at Bond University in Queensland and a Graduate Diploma in Psychology from Monash University in Melbourne. Most recently (2023), he completed a Doctor of Philosophy in neuropsychology from The University of Melbourne.

What is your favourite thing about being a dental prosthetist?

Smiling, talking, laughing and being able to eat comfortably is something we all take for granted. Once you lose the ability to do these ‘mundane everyday things’, you begin to understand how crucial your oral health is and how much of an impact it can have on your life, be it with your general health, your social life or even more fundamentally, your psychological well being. Having the privilege to be able to assist patients in bringing back their ability to eat the foods they have avoided or their ability to smile and laugh with confidence is definitely the most satisfying thing about being a dental prosthetist.

What do you like to do on your day off?

My wife and I are avid collectors of cacti, agave, succulents, and bonsai. So, on my days off, I like to unwind in the garden.

What is your favourite food?

Being Filipino, we have such unique cuisines, so my mum’s cooking would definitely be my favourite food!

What is your favourite thing about being a dentist?

When a patient comes to me with a problem or for advice, I like to take the time to discuss their options and then together decide on the best outcome for them. I enjoy problem solving and thinking outside the box. I enjoy all aspects of Dentistry, but am especially interested in Periodontics, Endodontics and Diagnosing through Radiology.

What do you like to do on your day off?

On my days off I enjoy pottering in the garden or hop on a bicycle. I love trains and (train) travel and enjoy music!

After spending some years in Broken Hill, in 2021, she made Swan Hill her home and worked at the Swan Hill Hospital for some years before joining the team at Tankard Family Dental.

What is your favourite thing about being a dentist?

When a patient sits down in the chair, I don’t only focus on the dental side but the patient as a whole, assessing their needs with them. That means together, we can get the best outcomes. I love all aspects of dentistry, with a particular interest in Oral Surgery. I enjoy working with new technologies for crown and endodontics to get the best outcomes for my patients.

What do you like to do on your days off?

I mostly spend quality time with my 10-year old son. I also play badminton, and enjoy singing!

What is your favourite food?

My mum in India used to cook the best food. Now I love anything vegetarian, really, especially Dosai and Idly.

What is your favourite thing about being a dentist?

I love that dentistry gives me the opportunity to get to know each one of my patients, which in turn helps me to improve each patient’s oral health in a personalised manner. I pride myself in being a gentle and empathetic dentist, and I strive to break the stereotype that going to the dentist is an unpleasant experience.

What do you like to do on your day off?

You can catch me reading a thriller/crime novel, binging on some netflix, or working on a Lego set during my downtime.

What is your favourite food?

There is so much great food out there in the world, but hot chips with chicken salt holds a special place in my heart!

What is your favourite thing about being a dentist?

I enjoy all aspects of dentistry, but what really drives me is working with my patients to get their desired outcome. I find myself listening to my patients’ opinions and providing different options, coming together to find the most suitable one. At the end of the day, I hope everyone leaves with a smile after their visit.

What do you like to do on your days off?

In my time off I love to play tennis, go to the gym or just take a well needed nap!

What is your favourite food?

I enjoy all sorts of cuisines, but I find at the end of the day I just love a good steak!

Dr. Adrian Sinanan
Dentist

Mon – Wed – Thur

8:00am – 5:00pm

Adrian qualified as a Dentist from King’s College London, University of London in 1997. He has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Human Biology and a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. Originally from the UK, Adrian relocated to Australia in 2006. He recently graduated from the University of Sydney with a Master of Science in Medicine (Sleep Medicine) with high distinction and is currently studying for a Master of Science in Medicine (Pain Management) with a major in orofacial pain.

What is your favourite thing about being a Dentist?

Dentistry has allowed me to live, work and study internationally and throughout Australia. Engaging with many patients and colleagues from differing backgrounds has been a privilege. Over the last 25 years, I developed areas of interest in restorative dentistry and oral surgery through postgraduate courses at King’s College London, Glasgow University, Melbourne University and Sydney University. My current interest is Dental Sleep Medicine, which focuses on sleep-related breathing disorders and orofacial pain. A major barrier to dental healthcare is anxiety and embarrassment. It is gratifying to enable patients and alleviate fear of judgment. For some time now, I have been involved in mentoring new graduates, which has been very rewarding.

What do you like to do on your days off?

At the moment, all my free time is tied up with my studies at Uni. This is not so bad as my wife is researching her PhD in psychology; it has become a mutual hobby! In my past life, travel, history, documentaries, and good old UK TV facilitated downtime. I used to row for my University Ist VIII, and I think in moving to Swan Hill, there might have been a subconscious lure to return to the river. Though now it may be just to feed the ducks! We shall see.

What is your favourite food?

Through my wife’s past career in hospitality and having a Sydney hatted chef in the family, food is a common topic of conversation. I enjoy cooking. I think my travels have influenced me there. There is no favourite, but I might be caught trying to re-create something I saw on a TV cooking or travel show and if it goes wrong, I do a very good Gordon Ramsay impression.
